Watching And Crying

Two little girls with blond hair
and what used to be laughing
blue eyes sit alone on the steps.

Dirty faces, clothes stained and
torn.
You can see the pain in their eyes
and tiny tears form in the corners.
The oldest one wraps her arms around
the younger one and whispers...
"it won't always be like this".
Even as she says the words she doesn't
believe them.....she hopes things will
change.

Father and Mother divorced and can't get
along.
Still they scream at one another in front
of their terrified children with no thought
of the scars they are leaving upon the souls
of these innocent girls.

Mother crying and sitting alone on the couch
wondering how her life had become such
a disaster......still no thought about the lives of
her children.
The girls come in to ask for something to eat
and the Mother screams," if it weren't for
you brats I would have a life of my own and
and I wouldn't have to hear your constant
crying and asking for something".
NOW GET OUT AND GO PLAY! And with
that she slaps each one across the face leaving
her hand print for all to see.

As the girls walk away they look at each other
and ask,"what did we do? Is it because we
were born?" Is that why she hates us so?
Tears streaming down their faces the shuffle outside.
Another night with no food, no bathes cause Mommy
is too tired and doesn't want to be bothered.

The sun rises on another lonely day for these small
girls.
They know they have to go to school but they don't
want to go and beg their Mommy to let them
stay home not telling her why they don't want to go.
"Mommy yells, you are going so get ready and get
before you miss the bus. If you miss the bus you will
get a whipping like you never dreamed possible.

They put on the only clothes they can find.
They try to brush their hair, one doing the other.
It's so dirty they can hardly get a brush thru it.
Oh God why do we have to go to school.
Please make us sick so we can stay home.

Soon the bus comes, the door opens and they
step inside.
The kids all start laughing at them and making fun
of the clothes they are wearing.
They all sing a song as the girls find their seats,

" DIRTY LIL, DIRTY LIL NEVER WASHES
AND NEVER WILL."
Over and over again the children sing till the two
little girls start sobbing and covering their ears.
The bus driver just looks in the mirror turns up his
radio and keeps driving on.
All day long the girls have to listen to horrible remarks.
Chanting and singing dirty songs about them.
They just want to curl up and die.
Being an Angel would be lots better they think than
the life they are living.

At the end of the day they go home and it starts
all over again.
Mommy has a beer and a cigarette and a boyfriend
sitting at the table with her.
Does Mommy ask how their day went? Nooooooo.
Does she care? Noooooooooooo.
Does she even pay attention when the girls leave the
room to go to their bedroom? nooooooooooo
Does she notice that her boyfriend has followed them
upstairs? nooooooooooooo
She has had way too much beer and can't stay awake.

On the bed the boyfriend sexually abuses both girls
and warns them if they say anything he will hurt
them and their Mommy.
This goes on and on every time he comes to the house.
More scars on the souls of the little girls.

This story could go on and on cause that's how
this kind of thing goes on and on and on.
Do we hear the screams of a child?
Do we pay attention to what goes on at school?
Do we intervene and try to help or do we just shrug
our shoulders and say how you just don't want to
get involved.

The little girls are 9 and 4 and if they aren't taken care
of they won't see their next birthday.
