Great Grandmothers Kiss Good-bye

How does a great grandmother say
good bye to a child she will never
know?
A child that she will never get to hold
in her arms and to sing special songs
to when the baby needs comfort?

How does she pretend that the child never
existed even though it was conceived?
How does she go on day by day and never
wonder what the child would have looked
like?
Would it look like her....would it have great grandpas
strong features?

Does it give her comfort in knowing that soon
she will leave this life and go to the next
and once again she will be with all that traveled
that path before her.
Will she know that this child she never got to see
hold or to look into it's eyes will be there
to meet her and finally she will be able to
cradle that child in her arms and sing a
special song too.

How does a great grandmother say good-bye
to a child that has already wrapped itself
around her heart and is a part of her?
To her the child was a child the day of conception.
The moment the seed was planted and began
to grow.
It was part of her part of her husband and part
of generations past, present and future.

Maybe she doesn't say good-bye.....
maybe she just whispers...I love you sweet baby
and one day we will be together for I'm getting old
and soon I will be among the Angels just as you
are.

A great grandmothers kiss good-bye.
